How does polycentric governance enable adaptable social-ecological systems? A benefit of effective polycentric governance is increased adaptive capacity within the system; however, there are also times where overlapping, independent decision centers could prevent adaptation to change. As a PhD student, I'm interested in the structure and function of governance structures that enable and inhibit adaptation in the context of conservation. My research has been in the Midwest of the United States and focused on volunteer-based lake conservation groups. I use mixed-methods including comparative methods, agent-based modeling, and qualitative data analysis. Along with my research, I'm a hiker, LGBTQIA+ advocate, and cat parent.
