Announcements > Resilience of Social-Ecological Systems - U.S. EPA

A current program at US EPA- National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) is Safe and Healthy Communities. Safe and Healthy Communities suggests an approach to environmental management that incorporates what is valued most about our natural resources. Sustainability research involves advancing the field of resilience science by exploring the interdependence of human and natural systems to inform community planning. Our research integrates ecological and social perspectives to devise management approaches to address environmental change. The project will assess resilience in social-ecological systems.

NRMRL uses a multidisciplinary approach, which employs ecologists, economists, engineers, environmental scientists, and physical and social scientists to address sustainability issues in regional environmental management. Together with other team members, the Associate will produce studies on ecological and social indicators of resilience for environmental management and sustainability. The incumbent is expected to conduct research on resilience and create peer-reviewed publications. The researcher will have a PhD with a research focus on resilience, social-ecological systems, and environmental management.
