Ecdysis Foundation is embarking on the largest agroecological experiment ever conducted, and we need your help!
This position will work with some of the top minds in regenerative farming in the country, collecting systems-level data on hundreds of farms, studying farming systems that have never been examined by researchers, discovering new species and how they work in functioning farming systems, and helping to change the trajectory of our food system and planet. To accomplish this ambitious mission, we are developing new technologies that will help steer the future of applied sciences.
The goal of our Research Fellow Program is to serve as an immersion in our style of science and prepare early- career scientists for a future as Research Scientists and Center Directors for Ecdysis Foundation.

At Ecdysis Foundation, we are rethinking the application of science to support a large-scale transformation of our food system, promoting regenerative farming through cutting edge research, education, and demonstration. Ecdysis Foundation is housed at Blue Dasher Farm, an operating regenerative farm that produces honey, eggs, chickens, lamb, and seed for our community.
Required skills
A Doctoral-level degree in a related field (e.g., Sociology, Applied Economics, Cultural Anthropology, Psychology, etc.). A demonstrated interest in using farming and regenerative or sustainable agriculture, and experience conducting on-farm research projects. Strong people skills and the ability to lead a research team and work directly with farmers to understand their operations. Ability to enthusiastically and transparently communicate science to a wide range of audiences, including farmers, press, social media, policy makers, and the general public. Experience with following a research project or program through to management recommendations.
Duties for this position
The incumbent will study how regenerative agriculture affects the resilience and well-being of farmers around North America and beyond; develop, coordinate, and administer a research program in social sciences; develop new tools in measuring the social impacts of and influences on regenerative agriculture, participate in relevant professional activities; publish science and thought pieces; help coordinate farmer- and student-focused workshops and meetings to help support soil conservation in regenerative farming; mentor and supervise younger technical staff and graduate students; serve as an active member of a food community. Current investigations include collecting social and economic data from regenerative and conventional farmers, and determining key factors that influence behavioral change in producers.
