Announcements > POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW Human Adaptation to Environmental Change in Forest Ecosystems

Postdoctoral fellow sought for research on human adaptation to environmental change in temperate
forest ecosystems. The goal of the research is to improve understanding of human adaptation behavior
and methods for projecting environmental changes that may result from interactions between human and
ecological elements of forested landscape in the context of climate change. The research will examine
the management and land use behaviors of individuals who own forestland and how these behaviors
may interact with changes in wildfire risk, insect and disease and vegetation over time. The postdoctoral
researcher will design, administer and quantitatively analyze data from social surveys and potentially
also lead scenario-planning exercises and focus groups.
The School of Natural Resources and Environment's overarching mission is to contribute to the
protection of the Earth's resources and the achievement of a sustainable society. Through research,
education, and outreach, the faculty, staff, and students are devoted to generating knowledge and
developing policies, techniques, and skills to help practitioners manage and conserve environmental
resources to meet the full range of human needs on a sustainable basis.
Start date: Flexible
Term: 1 year, 1.00 FTE

Salary: $47,476 (benefits eligible)

The candidate for the assistantship should be an interdisciplinary researcher with a PhD in human
geography, natural resources, environmental science, social psychology, sociology or a similar field.
The candidate should have:
 Expertise in social science research
 Experience with designing and administering social surveys
 Demonstrated scientific writing and communication skills
