W2 Professor
(initially limited to 6 years, tenure track)

for Social-Ecological Interactions in Agricultural Systems

The successful candidate will carry out research and teaching in the field of agricultural systems. The faculties in Kassel/Witzenhausen and Göttingen expect the candidate to strengthen their international profile in interdisciplinary research in this field. The successful candidate will integrate theoretical frameworks and state-of-the art methods from the social and natural sciences. Concepts such as sustainability, resilience, complexity and transformations in social-ecological systems will be addressed using quantitative and qualitative approaches. This includes the development of theory and innovative interdisciplinary methods for data collection and analysis. Willingness and ability to engage in interdisciplinary co-operation in our faculties are important requirements. The position is initially limited to 6 years and will be tenured upon successful evaluation and integration into major research grants.

The successful candidate must contribute English-language modules to our BSc programmes in agricultural sciences, the international MSc programmes 'Sustainable International Agriculture', and 'International Food Business and Consumer Studies', and the PhD graduate schools in agricultural sciences of the Universities of Kassel and Göttingen. Contribution to the universities' self-administration is also expected.

Applicants must demonstrate solid post-doctoral experience in social-ecological systems (SES) analysis including proof of didactic competence. A strong publication record in SES theory development that proves interest and capability in conducting interdisciplinary research is required, as is experience in international collaboration, including with developing countries or emerging economies of the global South.

The position is a joint appointment of the Agricultural Faculties of Göttingen and Kassel/Witzenhausen. The primary place of work is the University of Kassel/Witzenhausen, but regular presence in Göttingen (2 days per week) is mandatory. This professorship will be the third joint appointment by both universities, and reflects an innovative cooperation agreement designed to facilitate the establishment of comprehensive research clusters.
